Julie Alexander's extensive healthcare career has centered on her commitment to improving the health of North Carolinians. Having grown up in western North Carolina, she developed a special commitment to improving the health of people in rural areas and spent the first half of her career focused on improving access to health care. In addition to her clinical work as a Nurse Practitioner, she was privileged to consult with numerous non-profit and governmental organization on projects that shared this vision.
In 2007, Julie and her family had the opportunity to go to Brazil as volunteer service workers. There, Julie undertook a public health project with middle and high school students. Three years later, Julie returned with a new perspective and began the next phase of her career.
Her years abroad highlighted for Julie the unique health challenges that people living in the U.S. face. She saw that even when people have healthy intentions, our fast-paced culture can easily pull us off track. She also saw that our current health care system was in crisis, and that the pressures on health care providers discouraged them from spending much time or energy on health promotion. She came to believe that access to health care was only part of the solution. With sky-rocketing rates of preventable chronic disease, Julie refocused her work on improving access to self-care. She honed her coaching skills with further training at Duke Integrative Medicine and pursued additional clinical training in lifestyle-based approaches to promoting health and preventing and treating chronic disease. In 2011, she founded Core Health Partners with a mission of helping people bring more life to their years.
Julie received her undergraduate nursing training at University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and her master's in nursing at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a retired Family Nurse Practitioner and currently holds a national certification as a Nurse Coach through the American Holistic Nurses Credentialing Center. She is also certified by Duke Integrative Medicine as an Integrative Health Coach.
After more than 25 years in nursing and healthcare consulting, Julie is delighted to be pursuing her passion -- helping people flourish. When she isn't working, she enjoys music, dance, hiking, and travel. Julie lives in Cornelius, NC with her husband, two vivacious daughters, two cats and one patient dog.
