Three Simple Ways to Bring More Calm Into Your Day

b2ap3_thumbnail_Fotolia_56533400_XS.jpgLife can be busy, even when you're on sabbatical! Over the last month, I've been exploring different ways to recalibrate my energy and increase my resiliency.

In a nutshell, this means avoiding unnecessary stress (that stimulates the sympathetic or "fight or flight" response), and intentionally engaging in practices that bring calm, steady energy (that stimulates the parasympathetic or "rest and digest" response).

Some of the strategies I'm using are familiar ones to me that are tried and true. Others are newer, but equally helpful.

Here are three that I've found particularly helpful:

  • Herbal teas — Blends that contains holy basil, chamomile, valerian, passion flower and lavender are my particular favorites.
  • Aromatherapy— Relaxing fragrances like lavender can be used in many forms like teas, roll-on oil applicators, candles, incense, or diffusers.
  • Biofeedback — There are many ways to explore biofeedback. Heartmath is a well-known company with reliable products that can help guide you. I love their Inner Balance app because it is simple and portable.

The video below shares more specific information.

What about you? What are your favorite ways to bring more calm into your day? Please share your wisdom in the comments below!
